Almost Commuting Unitaries with Spectral Gap Are near Commuting Unitaries

چکیده
Let Mn be the collection of n×n complex matrices equipped with operator norm. Suppose U, V ∈ Mn are two unitary matrices, each possessing a gap larger than ∆ in their spectrum, which satisfy ‖UV −V U‖ ≤ ǫ. Then it is shown that there are two unitary operators X and Y satisfying XY −Y X = 0 and ‖U−X‖+‖V −Y ‖ ≤ E(∆/ǫ) “ ǫ ∆2 ” 1 6 , where E(x) is a function growing slower than x 1 k for any positive integer k.

Von Neumann’s Inequality for Commuting Weighted Shifts
We show that every multivariable contractive weighted shift dilates to a tuple of commuting unitaries, and hence satisfies von Neumann’s inequality. This answers a question of Lubin and Shields. We also exhibit a closely related 3-tuple of commuting contractions, similar to Parrott’s example, which does not dilate to a 3-tuple of commuting unitaries.
متن کاملEntanglement is not very useful for estimating multiple phases
The problem of the estimation of multiple phases (or of commuting unitaries) is considered. This is a sub-model of the estimation of a completely unknown unitary operation where it has been shown in recent works that there are considerable improvements by using entangled input states and entangled measurements. Here it is shown that when estimating commuting unitaries, there is practically no a...
متن کاملQCMA hardness of ground space connectivity for commuting Hamiltonians
In this work we consider the ground space connectivity problem for commuting local Hamiltonians. The ground space connectivity problem asks whether it is possible to go from one (efficiently preparable) state to another by applying a polynomial length sequence of 2-qubit unitaries while remaining at all times in a state with low energy for a given Hamiltonian H. It was shown in [GS15] that this...
متن کاملHomotopy of unitaries in simple C∗-algebras with tracial rank one
Let ǫ > 0 be a positive number. Is there a number δ > 0 satisfying the following? Given any pair of unitaries u and v in a unital simple C∗-algebra A with [v] = 0 in K1(A) for which ‖uv − vu‖ < δ, there is a continuous path of unitaries {v(t) : t ∈ [0, 1]} ⊂ A such that v(0) = v, v(1) = 1 and ‖uv(t)− v(t)u‖ < ǫ for all t ∈ [0, 1]. An answer is given to this question when A is assumed to be a un...
متن کاملFrom multiplicative unitaries to quantum groups
An alternative version of the theory of multiplicative unitaries is presented. Instead of the original regularity condition of Baaj and Skandalis we formulate another condition selecting manageable multiplicative unitaries. The manageability is the property of multiplicative unitaries coming from the quantum group theory. For manageable multiplicative unitaries we reproduce all the essential re...
